RARE FAUNA SOUNDS

A number of specialised fauna survey CDs are available. These CDs are used by government departments, local government authorities and environmental consultants to survey for the presence of rare and endangered species.

Over the last few years Nature Sound has produced a number of specialised fauna survey CDs (see list below). Generally the fauna are rare, vulnerable or endangered. There is no voice content.

It is possible to provide specially prepared CDs of rare bird and frog calls, if available, from Nature Sounds Library. A limited number of mammal sounds are also in the collection. As these Fauna Survey CDs sounds are not available as "on the shelf" productions, there are search and preparation costs.

Nocturnal Bird & Mammal Calls of NE-NSW: contains calls of 9 nocturnal birds including 7 owls, 1 frogmouth, 1 nightjar and also 5 mammals. There are 26 tracks and more than one call is provided for a number of species. Length 41 mins.

Bird Calls of NE-NSW: contains calls of 26 species required for NP&WS Biodiversity Survey's in early 1990's. Length 31 mins.

Bird Calls of Coastal NE-NSW: contains calls of 24 species, particularly cryptic birds. 24 tracks. Length 29 mins.

Bird Calls of SE-NSW: contains calls of 40 species required for NP&WS CRA fauna surveys. Length 46 mins.

Coxen's Fig Parrot Survey: while no recordings of this race are available a number of calls of the other two races are included as well as calls of 6 other parrot species. 23 tracks. Length 19 mins.

Rufous Scrub-bird Survey NE-NSW: contains a range of calls recorded in the Border Ranges and includes mimicry. 10 tracks. Length 12 mins.

Eastern Bristlebird Survey: contains a range of calls recorded in the Border Ranges and Barren Grounds Bird Observatory as well as calls of other species with calls that could be confused with Eastern Bristlebird. 19 tracks. Length 24 mins.

Calls of Threatened Fauna - Eastern NSW Survey: contains calls of 22 species including 5 nocturnal birds, 4 diurnal birds, 2 mammals and 11 frogs. 55 tracks. Length 74 mins.

Rail and Bittern Calls - Playback Survey (Queensland and NSW): contains calls of 9 species with some examples of more than one call per species. 11 tracks. Length 35 mins.

Bird & Mammal Calls of NE-NSW - Western Slopes & Plains: contains calls of 9 nocturnal birds, 9 diurnal birds and 4 mammals including more than one call for a number of species. 45 tracks. Length 49 mins.

Bird Calls of Nandewar Bioregion - Field Survey Tape: contains calls of 33 species required by NP&WS for field surveys of this bioregion which includes the western slopes of the great Dividing Range. Length 60 mins 24 secs.

Threatened Mallee Birds (SA Murray Darling Basin): contains calls of 5 species with several calls for each species. Prepared for SA Department of Environment & Heritage for field surveys. Length 9 mins 20 secs.
